pre-WW1 U.S. ARMY Recruiting Sign. 19 7/8” wide x 9 1/4” tall, very light gauge sheet steel with white lithographed; “U.S. ARMY BUILDS MEN” blank “MILES TO RECRUITING OFFICE”. on a blue field. The white blank was open to put in the actual miles to the office, and one of the two arrows would be blacked out, to indicate the direction to the office. This “tin” sign is almost old beer can material, very light to form to a tree or uneven surface. Meant to be tacked on a barn or tree to display. The back side has a green paint finish. The corners of the sign show minor loss of the paint finish, with 90-95% of the original paint finish remaining. I would rate the condition at very good plus. A nice early recruiting sign, un-used.
