“German Prisoners in Great Britain”. Card covers with a dust jacket, 62 pages, 8 ½” wide x 10 ¾” tall. Not dated, but published circa 1916 in London at Tillotson & Son, 107 B&W photos. This pictorial was done at the request of the American Ambassador in Berlin, the photographs were used to form part of the Wurtemberg War Exhibition which was held in Stuttgart in May 1916.. The photographs were taken by the Royal Flying Corps, photographic section. It documents everyday life of German Prisoners of War in six of the largest camps in Great Britain; Donington Hall, Alexandra Palace, Dorchester, Handforth, Lofthouse Park, and Eastcote. It shows the POW’s and their dining halls, veg gardens, pets, living quarters, kitchens, grounds and views into and from these P.O.W. camps. Probably many of these images appear nowhere else. Condition notes; In very good condition. The dust jacket has minor loses and a tear at it’s top, and some minor paint dots. The soft cover of the book within the dust cover is excellent. The book is tightly bound, a gap in the binding stitch is seen on the title page (as shown in a photo) but the binding is tight. A sound copy that is 100+ years old. Some interesting uniform and soldier pictures that is meant to give an idea of the humane treatment the British gave to these prisoners. This is a scarce book on German POW’s.
