"Swat The Kaiser" Advertising Trade Card- World War One

$125.00

Advertising Trade Card using an automated form of “Swat The Kaiser”, circa 1917-1918.  3 ½” w. x 2 ¼” t. paper sleeved envelope construction. The face has a 1 ¾” w. x 1 ½” t. opening in the paper with “SWAT THE KAISER” across the top. To the left; “When better Mechanics are to be had AUGUSTA GARAGE Will Have Them”, and at the bottom“AUGUSTA GARAGE Staunton, Va.” The right side has a tab with “PUSH” and “PULL” and the copyright “PATENTED” and the maker; “H. G. McGary & Co, 1726 N. 52d St., Philadelphia”.  The TV-like opening contains two pieces of celluloid printed with images of the Kaiser and Uncle Sam. When the tab at the right is pushed and pulled, Uncle Sam comes alive and soundly clubs the Kaiser, who he holds by the neck, as the Kaiser falls rearward and his spike helmet falls off. Wow! Moving pictures circa 1918! What was the survival rate for these small advertisements? This rates as rare! Price: $125.00 (ref. TB B-444)
