“BLACK CATS” pattern Coffee Cups with Saucers, made by Allertons, Ltd., Makers of Old English Bone China. The logo found on the bottom the cup and saucer is the one used from 1929 through 1942. I believe this set to be from an earlier year in that period. The cups are 3” diameter x 2 5/8” tall, and saucers are 2 7/16” diameter. Each piece has a different scene with Black Cats with red ribbons. The rims of the saucers and cups, and the handle back of the cups, have nice gold accents. One cup is coffee stained, with a darker stain visible at the outside towards it’s base. This cup appears darker inside than the off-white of the others. It also has a small blemish on it’s outside, as shown slightly above the brim of the hat worn by the cat with the red hatband. Another cup has a hair-line crack which is most visible on it’s interior, since the glaze there is lightly stained, and upon close inspection shows in the exterior glaze as well. It is a very tight crack. Allertons made loads of patterns of Bone China, but probably none is the stand-out like “BLACK CATS” is!
