English 1830's colored Transferware Mug , “Success to the Farmer”.  3 ¾” tall x 5 ¼” wide with handle, body has 4” diameter. I would call this mug fancy because it has two sides, both interior rims, and the handle all with transfers! One side has a farmer’s poem, with his tools garlanded with greens surrounding it, and “IN GOD IS ALL OUR TRUST” in yellow banner above, and “INDUSTRY PRODUCETH WEALTH” in yellow banner below. The opposite side has a vignette of tools, animals, the farmer, and his wife. A scrolled; “TRUST IN GOD” with a yellow banner; and “A HUSBANDMANS DILIGENCE PROVIDES BREAD” below. The rim of the cup has been glazed in brown, and it is thin on portions of the rim, and with a few chips to the brown glaze on a heavier section. A brown mark appears inside between the two transfers inside the rim. This looks like a gloved thumb which rubbed past the brown rim glaze before it was fired in handling it while it was being made. There is nice wear to the base rim, leaving it a dark red brown of the base clay. With that said, it has no cracks, chips or blemishes. It has lovely graphics, executed in simpler times. This Farmer’s Poem Transferware Mug has wonderful size and color.  $650.00 (ref. A-52)
