German Meissen World War One Ale Cups

a pair of Meissen Porcelain Ale Cups, with World War One German patriotic images. Each is 5 9/16” tall x 4 9/16” wide at rim, Meissen white pottery with blue decorations. The first one has a Prussian stylized Eagle with a crown above and laurel branches below. The reverse has “1914-1916” and an oak sprig with acorn. The vase is banded with a blue line at the rim, and twice towards the base. The bottom has the Meissen crossed swords logo and “18.” in blue and impressed overglazed marks; “69” and “Q228”(the 8 is smaller and is placed a half space above the 22) into the base. The second vase, or cup, is of similar size and form as the first cup. The front has an WW1 Iron Cross with an eight pointed star behind. Laurel sprig frame it below. The reverse has the dates;”1914-1915” in two lines. The vase is banded with a blue line at the rim, and twice towards the base. The bottom has the Meissen crossed swords logo in blue and impressed overglazed marks; “53” and “D 228”(the 8 is smaller and is placed a half space above the "22" into the base. These vases have an un-glazed foot, and are in excellent condition. Their capacity is a third of a liter to the rim. However these have no volume marks, as is common on most German beer cups, mugs or glasses. $585.00 (ref. TR A-7)
