Sale Price:$225.00 Original Price:$275.00

Carte de Visite San Franciso Militia Man. By the 1860’s there were twenty something California State Militias in San Francisco alone! These often came out of the Fire Houses and civic clubs across the city. Here is a mustached member with a small red kepi and red shirt with triangle piping on his lower sleeves. A piece of personal equipment is prominently tucked in his left breast pocket, and attached via a cord to a lower center shirt button. His uniform shirt has three rows of buttons up the front. His uniform finishes with a military belt with oval buckle, and blue pants with a red stripe. The hand-tinted finish has typical fine japanning of the tint pigment. Reverse is marked to the studio;”Bayley & Winter, 618 & 620 WASHINGTON STREET, SAN FRANCISCO, CAL.” in a flower and vine oval. The bottom of the card reads “Additional copies can always be obtained.” A scarce relic of Califoria Civil War history! Worthy of further research. He, and the image on the other CdV I am offering, appear to be from the same organization.  Price: $225.00 (TR A-114)
