German WW2 Cavalry Flagstaff Shoe "Fahnenschuh".

$125.00

German WW2 Cavalry Flag Shoe "Fahnenschuh". Nicely marked and dated twice. These were strapped to the flag-bearer’s stirrup to hold the flag-staff. It is in un-issued condition with minor toning from age.  Russet brown color. 3 1/2” long, 1 1/2” diameter at the top of the cup. The markings are within an oval; “E.G. LEUNER  BAUTZEN” encircling “1935”, at the center, is impressed on the strap and the top of the cup. Beautifully made pre-war quality. I have looked for a detailed picture of one of these “in use” during early WW2. My collectors circle has mixed opinions as to whether this is an actual WW2 German Cavalry issued piece or if it was made for export. Lances were in use on the Eastern Front during WW1 and used lance shoes, and German Cavalry was used extensively in early WW2 as scouting units. I have included a picture of a Norwegian WW2 Cavalry flag-bearer showing his flag shoe in use. If you have additional information, please let me know. Price: $125.00 (ref: C-294)
