U.S. W.W.1 Model 1917-1918 Trench Knife. The front of the guard marked; “U.S.  L.F. & C. 1917” This variation has extra pyramid knob at front of knuckle bow. It is made by Landers, Frary and Clark of New Britain, Connecticut. It is in very good condition and with slight wear to the blade from removed and put into the scabbard. There are two spots of rust on two of the three blade flats at the guard. One is 3/8”x1/4”and the other smaller at 3/16” x 5/16”. These each are lightly pitted. The triangular blade is 8 15/16” long, the knife overall is 14 1/16” long. The D guard has seven triangular pyramidal knobs, and has some rust pitting. It is a scarce variation with an extra knob at the front of the guard. It is listed in Cole’s book as Type 2, the more common variation has only six knobs. It has a one-piece walnut handle fashioned with finger grooves. The wood has several light bruises, none particularly distracting. Except for the scabbard wear to the flats and the noted  rust spots at the guard end, this blade has no edge nicks and is excellent with most of it’s bright blackened finish remaining. The knuckle bow also has much of it’s blackened finish. The scabbard is also in excellent condition. The green leather portion closest to the throat metal is marked “JEWELL 1918”. The black iron tip cap is held to the leather with two holes for blackened rivets, one is missing. The tip is marked; “M.S” at the side of the missing rivet. The upper black iron fitting with the Model 1910 belt devise in marked “HE” on it’s top and is also marked; “MS” on it’s body. It is sold as a collector’s item, and may not conform to your local laws or regulations. Please consider that before purchasing it. I cannot assume responsibility. It is a scarce variation of a WW1 U.S. Model 1917-1918 Trench Knife. Price: $695.00 (ref. C-321)
