ZIPPO Lighter- 1951 Type 1 wartime steel, w/ GARCIA & DIAZ Inc. Burgee engraving
ZIPPO Lighter 1951, Type 1 w/ GARCIA & DIAZ Burgee engraving. This 1951 satin finish steel case Zippo has a five barrel hinge. The hinge is in very good condition, not floppy when it’s opened. It does hang over the base at the opening edge, as shown in the images. Overall slight use patina wear on the edge of the top whhere you flip it open. There is overall pocket wear and use marks on the case, but this example is better than most and has nice even wear. ZIPPOs made during the Korean War were made of steel, instead of brass to conserve brass for the war effort. Garcia & Diaz Inc. are shipping agents for goods coming and going to Spain, and they had a large office in New York City when they first opened. The Garcia & Diaz Inc Burgee, which is a small pendent showing the vessel’s ownership, and name is engraved into the case. The engraving does not appear to have filled with colored enamel., and shows with a slightly bronze patina. The lighter is complete with it’s original 1951 insert. This is a very nice example of an early Patent Number 2032895 lighter with attractive engraving. Price: $65.00 (ref. B-963g)
