Elastolin Composition Figure- Cowboy Tied to Tree

$75.00

Elastolin Cowboys & Indians Composition Toy Figure. Cowboy tied to tree. 4 5/8” tall. Stress cracks on left arm at sleeve, on tree at cowboy’s waist, and under base through the “Elastolin” logo mark. Logo in script letters. Elastolin figures were produced in this composition style in Germany during the 1930's. The figures were molded over a wire skeleton using a mixture of kaolin, hide glue, and saw dust. Once out of the molds they were taken home by women who hand painted them as piece work. The detail and paint work are usually wonderfully done to a high standard. They typically have stress cracks because they have both a wire and composition make-up. Each ingredient expands and contracts at different rates, which produces the common cracks. Lovely modeling and paint work with the original ropes.
