German Composition Toy Soldier "Winter Guard Duty" by LINEOIL, circa 1930's. 3” tall. These are composition material (kaolin, saw dust and hide glue paste over wire armature) which is formed in molds and baked. They were often farmed out as piece work to Haus Fraus to be hand painted to strict quality standards. The base is marked “LINEOL GERMANY”. The Lineol brand is top tier in German Composition with Elastolin close behind. This example is nicely detailed with eye lashes and brows, uniform buttons and his equipment and rifle.
