German WW1 Model 1916 Helmet Coin Bank. Circa 1916. 4 1/8 wide x 4 7/8” long x 2 5/8” tall. Stamped sheet steel construction, painted Field Gray, with approximately 75-80% of the original paint finish remaining. A 1 1/8” x 3/4” old paint loss patch and a smaller 1/4” x 3/8” slightly rusted patch are on the right front quarter of the bank. The hinged key operated door in the base is marked; “D.R.G.M.” which translates to Deutsches Reich Gebrauchsmuster (German: German Reich Registered Design). Inside the bank, the coin slot is covered from one side by a square of stiff paper placed to keep coins in the bank, it has slightly shifted. This bank is a faithful reproduction in miniature of the famous World War One German Coal Shuttle Helmet, as shown with an original helmet. A replacement k ey is included. Very scarce.
