Copper and Pewter Trophy Mug- Morris Yacht Club, 1908

$165.00

Morris Yacht Club Copper and Pewter Trophy Mug. Nicely engraved; “MORRIS YACHT CLUB, August 30, 1908, CLASS D, SECOND PRIZE, WON BY CLYTIE”. it’s size is 4 3/8” t. x 4 1/8” diameter at base x 5 3/4” wide with the handle. An enamel burgee of the Morris Yacht Club in the Bronx, New York is attached. The burgee is a distinctive pendent used to identify yacht clubs, and shipping and cruise lines in the maritime world. The pewter has turned a mellowed gray on the handle and interior, though it is brighter on the base rim. The copper finish has bright luster with minor tarnish from handling over about 50% of the copper. It exhibits very well but has a small, 1 3/8”, dent to the rim, as shown with the handle to the left in the images of the mug. The minor dent was probably done when it was awarded and glasses were raised in toasts! It is marked“1164” on the base rim next to the glass bottom. This is a great trophy which was given in a by-gone time. Here is a nice early yacht race trophy from The Morris Yacht Club, which was established in 1899 and is still located on the southern tip of City Island, New York. Price: $165.00 (ref. B-437)
