American Grain-Painted Pine Box- ex. Nan Gurley Collection

$575.00

This circa 1850’s-60’s Pine Box has a lovely hand-painted wood grain exterior. The faux wood grain exterior was intended to make this simple pine box more fancy. And the condition of the finish is excellent, with nearly all the paint remaining. The bottom wood was not painted and has nice edge wear and shows the plain pine wood grain. The box is 8 1/8” wide x 6 1/4” deep x 3 1/2” tall, and has slightly larger overhanging bottom and top panels. The hinges are the most simple “snipe” wire hinges. Hand scraper marks are clearly evident when holding the box top at an angle to reveal this finishing. It has a divided interior and lock hardware. The hasp section of the lock is missing from the lid. This is only visable when the box is open, looking up at the lid section. I bought this box years ago from Nan Gurley at her store in Cornish, Maine. Nan had lovely early American country antiques. She is missed by the collecting community. Price: $575 (ref. B-685)
