Scarce CHELSEA Marine Clock w/ "U.S. Marine Corps" marking & Nickel finish

$1,495.00

Chelsea Marine Clock, with a six inch face and a nickel finish. Face is marked; “U.S. Marine Corps”. The case back and movement are serial numbered: “142161” (records indicate no. 133521 to no. 143520, to be from Dec 1919 to May 1921). The nickel-plated brass case has a screw-on bezel, and has the serial number, “142161”, stamped on the reverse, below the top mounting hole. This early 17 jewel movement is the round triple plate example, which measures 2 11/16” diameter x 31/32” deep. The movement is marked; “CHELSEA CLOCK CO BOSTON, U.S.A.” and “142161”. The face is marked; “CHELSEA- BOSTON” at the bottom of the dial. There is plate thinning on the flange, as shown. The top mounting hole and the next hole clock-wise have been slightly enlarged, which is covered by a screw head. The bezel has a series of small dings along 2”+ of it’s edge. Over-all, this clock presents well, and has a patina consistent with years of in-service use, and age. It is nearly 100 years old! The face has been professionally re-silvered, and the numerals filled with black wax, as was originally done. The movement keeps good time. Chelsea clock movements are wonderfully machined, and cut, not stamped. Their clocks are some of the finest made in the United States. and are highly collected. “U.S. Marine Corps” issue marking on the face are very scarce. The heavy nickle plating on brass case is also a scarce feature. Here is a great CHELSEA clock with “U.S. Marine Corps” issue markings. Price: $1,495.00 (ref. B-732)
